Frilot partner Nairda T. Colón (Lesa) entered Frilot's second clerkship class in 1996, joining the firm after graduating cum laude from Tulane Law School in 1997. Ms. Colón focuses primarily in the defense of medical malpractice, healthcare, medical products, professional, general and premises liability related cases.
For over 20 years, she has represented physicians in virtually every specialty, nurses, nurse practitioners, hospitals, outpatient clinics, outpatient surgery centers, long-term healthcare facilities, and other healthcare providers and organizations in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana. Ms. Colón has tried cases in many district courts in Louisiana. She has also argued before the appellate courts of Louisiana and the Louisiana Supreme Court. Her litigation experience includes an extensive range of medical malpractice, healthcare, professional, general and premises liability matters.
Ms. Colón has taught the Medical Malpractice Louisiana Tort Class at Tulane Law School since 2007, and she also leads a quarterly in-service program for area hospitals, covering legal issues as part of the orientation program for incoming practitioners. She also routinely gives seminars and presentations to medical groups and hospitals on topics related to litigation in the healthcare field. She has given presentations at a Defense Research Institute conference and to the Association of Operating Room Nurses. Ms. Colón is a member of the New Orleans Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ), the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), and the Defense Research Institute (DRI).
Ms. Colón is committed to the community and has been involved in the continued rebuilding and recovery efforts of the region after the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. Her efforts with the Save NOLA Project, Habitat for Humanity and Make It Right included hands on building as well as fundraising and awareness. Additionally, Ms. Colón served on the Team Gleason Executive Legal Committee to help secure an innovative residence for those living with ALS or Lou Gehrigs's Disease.
