Frilot LLC Of Counsel Cranay D. Murphy is a seasoned civil litigator in the firm's Medical Malpractice and Healthcare section who has represented corporations, insurers, healthcare providers, municipalities, and government entities in complex casualty, commercial, insurance, professional liability, and civil litigation matters. Her experience includes all phases of litigation through trial and appeal.
Cranay has extensive experience handling matters in both state and federal courts, including personal injury, premises liability, breach of contract, employment, insurance coverage, insurance bad faith, insurance errors and omissions, medical malpractice, professional liability, and civil rights claims. She also advises clients on litigation risk, contractual obligations, internal investigations, and dispute resolution strategies.
Prior to joining Frilot, Cranay represented insurance companies, businesses, and insureds in complex insurance coverage disputes, bad faith litigation, casualty matters, employment claims, and commercial disputes throughout Louisiana. She regularly provided coverage opinions, handled litigation under reservations of rights, conducted depositions and mediations, and developed litigation strategies on behalf of insurers and commercial clients.
Cranay previously served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Louisiana, where she defended state agencies, officers, employees, and higher education institutions in personal injury, medical malpractice, premises liability, automobile liability, and civil rights litigation in both state and federal courts.
She has also represented municipalities and public entities in liability and constitutional claims, including actions brought under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and Title VII, and advised local governments regarding workplace policies, emergency preparedness procedures, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity initiatives.
Cranay began her legal career defending physicians, hospitals, surgery centers, residential healthcare facilities, and other healthcare providers in medical malpractice and professional liability matters, providing her with a strong foundation in healthcare-related litigation, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
Cranay earned her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Southern University Law Center, where she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Southern University Law Review.
