Business Litigation, Rising Star, 2014
Frilot associate Ben Castoriano works primarily within the firm's Commercial Litigation Practice Group. Mr. Castoriano has extensive experience in handling contract and commercial disputes and was recently part of the Frilot team that represented ION Geophysical Corporation and its corporate predecessors against a battery manufacturer. The dispute emerged out of the misappropriation of ION's design for high-capacity power sources for its survey positioning devices in the oil and gas exploration industry. The Frilot team was able to resuscitate this previously-dismissed case for their client after a successful appeal and reversal of summary judgment. The team went on to try the case to an extremely favorable conclusion, securing a jury verdict in excess of $20 million for ION.
Mr. Castoriano has also worked on a number of other high profile cases, including Jefferson Parish vs. Waste Management, an ongoing case in which Mr. Castoriano represents waste disposal giant Waste Management. The politically-charged contract dispute at one point involved claims of over $80 million in penalties, and has taken place amid charges of corruption. Outside of the commercial realm, Mr. Castoriano also has experience in bankruptcy proceedings, as well as representing defendants in the intellectual property and employment litigation contexts.
Mr. Castoriano received a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration from the University of Richmond, and earned his law degree from Tulane University Law School. While at Tulane, Mr. Castoriano earned his Certificate in International Business from Queen Mary Intellectual Property Institute in London, England. He also worked as an extern for United States District Judge Sarah S. Vance in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Mr. Castoriano was born in Paris, France, and raised in London, England. He is a native French speaker.
