NEW ORLEANS, LA (OCTOBER 22, 2007) ’” The New Orleans City Council recently endorsed Frilot’s recommendations for more than 5,300 property tax appeals. Frilot LLC was contracted by the City Council to handle more than 6,000 appeals which is unprecedented based on a typical year when fewer than 100 appeals are usually heard.Frilot LLC was in charge of hiring hearing officers, gathering information and scheduling appointments for nearly 6,000 appellants. Hearings were conducted in the Louisiana Superdome between September 17 and October 15. Overall, Frilot recommended adjusting 65 percent of 5,300 appeals, or 3,478 properties, reducing the city’s taxable value by about 2.5 percent. City Council President Arnie Fielkow praised Frilot’s fair, transparent and organized handling of the appeals, calling it an ’unprecedented success’. Â�Councilwomen Cynthia Willard-Lewis and Stacy Head further commended Frilot’s efforts suggesting that Frilot LLC provide direction to the state’s Road Home program and to some city departments such as the code enforcement section. Property owners will receive a letter at the end of the month indicating the outcome of their appeal. Results can also be viewed online at www.neworleanstaxappeal.com. Property owners unsatisfied with their outcome can take their appeals to the Louisiana State Tax Commission within ten days of the postmark of the outcome letter.
